06. What is the role of HR in training and development?

The Role of HR in Training and Development

HR is responsible for determining the training needs of employees. Creating and creating training programmes is another responsibility they have. Ensuring that employees possess the necessary abilities and expertise to carry out their tasks is the primary responsibility of HR. HR increases employee performance by offering these opportunities. Moreover, it promotes staff retention and job happiness. The success of the business is generally correlated with HR's involvement in employee training. (Shalini L 2023 Feb)

5 Key Roles of HR in Training and Development

An organization's training and development programme is one of the most important activities for the development of the HR function. The training and development process depends heavily on HR's role. The human resources department holds the belief that its workforce is one of the organization's most precious resources and assets. An effective HR director helps staff members reach their maximum potential by making the most of their training time. Effective and efficient training programmes are arranged by a knowledgeable HR department to help employees flourish. (By shahulmarcom)

The five key roles of HR in training and development:

  1. Connect with Employees
  2. Organizing an Efficient Orientation Program for New Employees
  3. Organizing Ongoing Training Activities
  4. Motivating Employee Career
  5. Encourage the employee development plans

Connect with Employees

One of the most crucial requirements for engagement at the moment is employee connection. The prevalence of remote and hybrid work has reached all-time highs and is unlikely to decline much more in the near future. A lack of workplace ties is now regarded as a crisis among the many things that employees claim they need right now. It won't be helpful to just get everyone back into the workplace. Employees demand flexibility to work from home as well as connectivity. HR departments must therefore think outside the box when it comes to supporting employee connection, which begins with defining the term itself.
(Sam Cook)

Organizing an Efficient Orientation Program for employees

Employee orientation is important to both the new hire and the company itself. In addition to helping new hires become adjusted to the workplace, it offers insightful information to the business that helps the programme develop and flourish in the future. Many organisations find it difficult to come up with the perfect combination of activities to make a new hire feel welcome and give them a good start in their new role, even though it is widely acknowledged that having a system in place for doing so benefits both the company and the individual.

Organizing Ongoing Training Activities

Organizational training is the process of transferring knowledge within an organization. The goal of this kind of training is to prepare participants for their present positions. However, it also readies students for jobs and responsibilities in the future.

Employee training programmes might help them acquire new abilities. Employees can learn about the particular tools, procedures, and systems that the company utilises through organisational training. (Elizabeth Perry 2021 Aug)

Motivating Employee Career

Every organisation wants to have a motivated workforce, but relatively few actually benefit from it these days. These benefits of having a motivated staff are very well documented: companies with high employee engagement rates are more adaptable and able to withstand adversity.

Organisations sometimes over promise on things like improved perks, stock options, and bigger pay in an attempt to entice workers. While these external benefits may help in the near term, relying only on them may cause more issues down the road. (Anand Inamdar 2022 Feb)

Psychologists claim that self-realization is a profoundly human experience. In addition, it is fundamental to human nature to care for something and see it grow. It applies to the majority of daily activities that we engage in. This means that it applies to societal and social spaces alike.

Motivated employees ensure:

  • There is a positive atmosphere within the organization
  • Co-workers are happy and feel safe at work
  • Make sure clients are happy
  • They always achieve better results than their counterparts

Encourage the employee development plans

A procedure for assisting people in developing skills for their current position and acquiring knowledge and skills for new roles and responsibilities within an organisation is known as an employee development plan, also known as an employee growth plan.

There are three key elements every individual development plan should include:

  • Employee competence: What are the employee's strong points? How can they best utilise their abilities to benefit the team and company by producing better outcomes? How might these outcomes advance and aid in their professional development?
  • Organisational needs: What does the organisation require? What are its advantages and disadvantages? What technological capabilities and skill sets does it require to remain competitive in the market?
  • Employee passion: What excites the worker? What do they actually find fulfilling and enjoyable to perform? How might these interests be more effectively matched with their abilities and the demands of the company?
